I would strongly recommend this stove. Whilst the stove does cost considerably more than others, it is well worth it. I would certainly buy this stove again, and could not recommend it enough to any prospective buyer.

Bought a Clearview on the advice of my chimney sweep. The salesman at was so effusive that I thought the stove would not live up to his spiel, but it did. I have had a stove before and this one lights, and once it has burned for about 90 mins seems to use less fuel. I have a big room to heat and the radiators struggled, but the stove does not. In fact in a small house I think I would just use a Clearview stove. Since I installed it 3 weeks ago at least 4 of my friends are keen to get one, this did not happen with my last stove. Well worth the cost.

Just purchased my third Clearview, and my second Vision 500. Cracking stove, run it hot and it's at its most efficient. Nice looking & extremely controllable. The Clearview's aren't cheap, but in my view you get exactly what you pay for. Glass stays clear, a fine focal point for any room. Roll on winter......

Made to Last
The Clearview is robustly constructed (and indeed quite heavy for its size at I think about 120Kgs). I understand that all of the seams are welded which means that there shouldn't be any panel gaps as the stove ages. This will help in burn control as air won't leak in (or smoke out). I think that the single door is preferable to a double door model as it is easier to seal and you get a better view of the fire. The option to have the 2 inch legs was a boon to us as our fireplace is not very high. The complimentary leather welding gauntlets are a nice touch as they mean that you can place the logs accurately on a hot fire rather than throw them in from a distance - they also have a multitude of other uses such handling a difficult cat.
The design manages to avoid the overtly baroque embelishments of some traditional stoves as well as the rather industrial looks of some ultra modern ones.
A good all round stove. We have the multifuel version and if you use a little coal overnight burning is easy otherwise with dry seasoned logs they tend to burn out. A good stove with great heat output. Hardly had the heating on all winter in a good sized house. We even boil an Aga kettle on the top.

Having lived with woodburners for 40 years the Clearview 500 is by far the most efficient and pleasant stove to live with that I have used. Current model has been in use for 14 years and provides warmth and comfort on wood and coal. Now we avoid mixing the two fuels as it is hard on the chimney liner. The stove can be freshened up for looks with an annual or bi annual spray with stove paint. The glass stays clean with wood or coal when not damped down. The design is simple, robust and efficient. No experience of back boiler but wish we had one.
If you can't accommodate an Aga the stove provides a similar useful heat source with its flat top giving a useful cooking surface for Jams, Marmalades, etc. any long slow cook, assuming of course that it doesn't upset your domestic Yin, Yang or Zen. Recommended.

We have had this stove for 18 months and love it. It lights easily and burns through at the end of the day; we pull the wood burning control fully out then. We once tried it with coal and that was a success too. We find it useful to wipe the interior of the window after about 5 days of burning. This stove replaced an open coal fire and the convenience of a controlled and safe fire with minimal mess has turned us evangelical about this wood burner.
Steve Bottomley April 2009
This is an excellent piece of kit that is well made, puts out plenty of heat and if turned up high will keep a clean window. The back boiler was simple to install and is effective at providing hot water. Combined with a solar water system we rarely need to use the immersion heater.

I have had this stove for over 10 years and have burnt everything from broken pallets to split hardwood. it burns clean with a beautiful lazy flame. and during all this time I have only had to replace 1 fire brick. In my new house I will be fitting a clearview stove.
Macroy Spencer January 2009
Superb stove, had it 5 years. I have had it on for 3 months at a time. Clean burning with minimal ash deposit. It looks good and the heat can be controlled extremely well. Even heat up scones and muffins (in silver foil) if inclined. Lights out in winter and you get a great flickering fire. As we have occasional power cuts the back boiler gives plenty of hot. Recommend unreservedly.

Is it worth the high price?
Clearview are more expensive than other stove manufacturers, but is the price reflected in the product? I can only answer this with a resounding "yes!" my Clearview burns all winter-morning, noon and night without any trouble (and usually with poorly seasoned wood). If you are looking to buy a new stove, looking at prices will definitely cause false economy.

After searching review sites for feedback on stoves and asking friends and people who had stoves, Clearview seemed to come out on top. Expensive purchase as we had to buy a smoke controlled unit for ours which also makes the fire box smaller. Overall very pleased with the product. Simple to light, the heat it produces is great, everyone comments on the style. One downside is the price but you have to pay for quality they are built to last. Have just purchased a pionneer 400 for our new house.
Pollyanna August 2008
Initially very pleased but soon grew tired of stocking it to the gunnels to warm the room. I needed a heater not an ornament! Expensive, slow to get going and worthless as a room heater. Happy to say the second hand value is good. PP.
Dee September 2008Completely brilliant
Can't disagree more with Pollyanna. We've had our clearview for about 4 years and it's the best stove we've ever had! It's hot, really controllable, burns with the minimum of wood, easy to light and keep clean. We've had numerous other makes before and none have been as good as the Clearview. I'm looking for a replacement stove for a different room and I'm definitely going for Clearview again. Probably not the cheapest but definitely the best!
Andrew October 2008
brilliant!
Pollyanna was obviously not working her stove correctly. This is a brilliant stove, ours is in a larger room and warms it very effectively. Sometimes too effectively hence only 4 stars on controlability. The heat from the lounge also keeps that end of the house warm. Ease of lighting depends very much on the quality of the wood. Dry well seasoned wood catches and burns easily, less well seasoned wood needs a bit more effort and a little longer to build up the heat. I would not consider anything other type of stove.

After making the mistake of buying a cheaper woodburner in our previous house, we decided to go for the clearview in our new house. No regrets and can't recommend it highly enough. It does everything it says it does .... it's highly efficient, easy to light, heats up a room quickly and burns perfectly clear. Very satisfying. We've recently started using coal on the multifuel pioneer and have discovered that this enables up to keep the fire burning all night - superb!
Joy May 09I have had other stoves in the past, but this one is by far the best! I would never buy another make of stove after using the Clearview. No need to burn overnight as it lights so easily within minutes in the morning.
Sheila James April 2009
We installed a Clearview last year and enjoyed the warmth all through the very cold weather. My only criticism is that the room gets too warm, even at the lowest setting! Although it is a little expensive I would not hesitate to recommend it as being the best stove to buy. An added bonus is using the stove top to cook, reheating stews etc. or cooking foil wrapped meat/fish.
Jonathan Stuart December 2008
I was lucky enough to "inherit" a Clearview Pioneer 400 when we bought our last house. It is by far and away the best stove I have ever used. It looks great, it very efficient, controllability is fantastic (you really can fine tune this with the two air controls) and the air wash really works unlike any other stove I have used. We have moved house and made the mistake of not bringing our Clearview with us. The Villager in our new house is not a patch on our old stove so I am replacing it with a Clearview and buying another Clearview for a second room. Yes, Clearviews are expensive but if you can afford the extra then it is definitely worth it, especially given that they last for years, and you will love this stove. The other reviews scored the stove poorly on overnight burning. I have never found this to be a problem. Make sure the stove is at full heat with a good thick base of embers, then load up with wood and close down the air so it is almost fully closed. The stove will the tick over until morning where it will jump back in to life when you fully open both air vents.

In my review I scored everything as 5 but put Value for Money as 4. I have just replaced a fireplace with a wood burner but bought a Stovax because the Clearview was too tall and I didn't want to move the fireplace lintel. I now know the difference in performance between a £600 stove and a Clearview and the extra money for a Clearview is well worth it. I am amazed at how much less controlable the Stovax is and that the airwash is inferior. Now I know this I rate the Clearview's value for money as 5 and wished that I could have fitted a Clearview here too.

Absolutely delighted with this fire, i watch it more than the T.V!!!
Steve April 2008
Excellent stove, wholeheatedly recommended. So good we bought another for another room in our cottage. We know 2 friends who owned a Clearview, but weren't prepeared to pay the extra for another stove in their house, and both now regret it moaning about no airwash, poor heat, lighting etcLara Roberts April 2009
I love this stove. Our house is heated solely by our two clearview stoves. This is the small one in the dining room and I only use it when we are eating. I light it 1/2 hour before I need to use the room and it will take it from unbearably cold to pleasantly warm in that time. Even with rubbish wood the temperature in the stove rises to 600F in about 15 mins. If you want something quick and easy this is perfect.

THE ROLLS ROYCE
Can't fault this masterpiece. The only seal on the stove as far as I can see is the back panel, which is DOUBLE welded, inside and out. The heavy rope seal seals the low canopy. We installed a flexible steel flue and insulated it, and overnight burning is simple. It takes 18" logs which means less work preparing the fuel. The doors are so simple to adjust when the rope seals begin to compress, and the double glazed doors mean cooling room temperatures don't affect the inside glass which stays hot. Boiler options would tar up the glass we were told, but as yet we haven't had a problem although we do burn dry ash and sycamore. The stove is on the pricey side but we were told it was considered to be the Rolls Royce of stoves and we have to agree. Some people are going to have grumbles with anything, but a lot of the problems could be fuel or installation issues. The stoves do exactly what they say on the tin. I would have liked a thermostatic control but it doesn't actually matter too much because the stove controls so beautifully. Wholeheartedly recommend. The best appliance we have ever bought.
Colin Smith March 2009
A great stove. Very easy to light and the windows only discolour if I use unseasoned wood. At 14Kw I didnt expect it to stay in overnight but it often does and I think having my flue lined has helped overall performance. A super quality stove and much better than my previous cast iron one which in just 6 yrs was impossible to keep air tight. Handle does get hot but I always gloves. Thoroughly recommend Clearview in general.
Mr D Warner February 2009
Fitted the stove in october and have loved every minute using it.some things could be slightly better but overall top piece of kit .i have the 45000 boiler and have no trouble at all keeping the glass clean if dry wood is used and only clean the glass once a week.as for overnight burning i let it out every night but often it is still in in the morning and can be revived.as another has said the handle gets hot but they give you a pair of leather gloves to use .it does use a lot of wood but is a big stove that heats most of my house and i have used very little oil this year.some things could be improved, the ash pan is fiddly but not difficult.to sum up totally satisfied and would buy again.sorry about the puntuation marks and grammer but i am not very good on computers.
Mark Fox April 2009
This is my 3rd stove, and my first Clearview. I can thoroughly recommend the 650, it is a super stove. I now live in a smoke control area so I have the smoke control system. It is so easy to use - no fiddly knobs or tools to control the air flow. Incredibly easy to light and the output is impressive. I was recommended a Clearview from a colleague whose Vision 500 stove is still as good as the day he bought it 7 yrs ago and so far, it was an excellent recommendation.
